PMM Pulse Mod Kit Overview: Transforming the OP1 8K
snekxs ā Share
The PMM Pulse is a lightweight mod kit for the Endgame Gear OP1 8K that transforms the original mouse into an ultra-lightweight gaming mouse while maintaining the iconic shape and feel.
The build took around 30ā45 minutes when following the guide, though newcomers may need up to 2 hours. Putting the mod kit together was fairly easy overall; while it may be a bit challenging for beginners, the guide is clear, descriptive, and makes the process straightforward. The kit requires no additional tools and includes everything needed for assembly, making it genuinely super easy when following the instructions.
The mod kit involves disassembling a normal OP1 8K or OP1 8K V2, removing the internals, and placing them into the 3D printed shell. This process is well documented with instructions, making it easy to build the mouse even if you've never done a mod before.

Once built completely, the mouse feels very solid overall. There is pretty much no side play at all thanks to the carbon fiber reinforcement bars inside the shell, even with firm grip pressure. The sidewalls are incredibly rigid, offering a feel that is comparable to normal non-3d printed mice. The carbon rods inside provide a great sense of structural integrity that is definitely noticeable when gripping the mouse firmly.
With the mouse featuring solid sides and a honeycomb top, there is a small degree of flex on the top and bottom of the mouse. However, this is not an area that is likely to be touched during normal usage.Ā

The PMM Pulse comes with two different coating options: UltraGrip 3.0 (ceramic-based) and a standard coating.
The UltraGrip 3.0 offers excellent grip with a smooth, dry feel that has a slightly chalky texture. It performs well even during long sessions or when your hands are sweating, making it ideal for humid conditions. The coating is significantly better than bare plastic and rivals many other premium mice coatings on the market. In my testing, it has held up really well over time. One thing to note is that this coating does take a bit to warm up during use.
The standard coating has a slightly glossy look with a grainy, raw feel to the plastic. It's closer to bare plastic than the UltraGrip. It also costs less than the options with the additional coating. I only have the UltraGrip 3.0 on hand, so I don't have first hand experience with the standard coating. However, the grip tape included with the PMM Pulse works great with either coating option.

The stock skates included in the box are the PMM Smoothies, PMM's custom PTFE dot skates designed for speed on both cloth and glass mousepads. They feature a PU layer to prevent collapsing over time and help reduce noise, similar to most modern dot skates released recently. As the name suggests, they are extremely smooth on glass.
In my testing, I used the PMM Pulse with the Smoothies exclusively on the VA-005 from WALLHACK. They are very quiet and extremely fast, especially when paired with the PMM Pulse in the 32ā34 gram range. This creates a very quick overall experience that takes a few days to fully adjust to. While PTFE skates won't match UHMWPE in long-term durability, after a week of heavy, consistent use, speed and sound remained largely unaffected.

The PMM FlexCord is a significant upgrade over the stock OP1 8K cable. It's extremely lightweight and makes the mouse feel wireless during use.
A silicone sleeve is provided to fit the thin wire into a mouse bungee for better cable management. The FlexCord's thinness means this adapter is essential if you use a bungee setup.
There is a USB extension included in the box, as just by itself the cable is quite short due to signal strength requirements.

One of the most interesting aspects of this mouse is the click tensioning system, which allows you to adjust the pre-travel and post-travel click distance by adjusting two screws hidden at the bottom of the mouse. This is a unique feature that gives you a great deal of control over your click feel.Ā
The side switches can also be adjusted using the included pads, so you have complete control over the tactile feedback. The click switches and scroll wheel feel are virtually identical to the original OP1 8K, so you will feel right at home.Ā
If you are interested in learning more about the design and feel of this mouse, you may want to check out some reviews of the OP1 8K or OP1 8K V2, as the design is virtually the same.

Despite the fact that the design is the same as the original OP1 8K, the new weight of the mouse took a couple of days to get used to. The modified mouse can weigh as low as 36 grams with depending on what version you purchase and what skates you pair with the mouse, which is a big reduction of 12 to 15 grams compared to the original weight of the OP1 8K mouse.
This change is immediately noticeable and is a definite bonus for someone that loves the original shape of the OP1 but just wanted it lighter. The various options/variants allow you to choose your preferred design: completely solid shell, solid sides with honeycomb top, or completely honeycomb mouse, each of which will have its own unique weight differences as well. The light option is 32g, the solid sides option adds 1g for 33g total, and the completely solid option adds 2g for 34g total. There is also the option of adding 2 grams with the UltraGrip 3.0 coating as well.
The ultra-lightweight mouse with the extremely fast PMM Smoothies skates makes for a very fun experience. However, this does take a couple of days to get used to.

If you want the classic design but in something lighter, the PMM Pulse is the way to go. It has the same build quality and feel as the OP1 8K but in something much lighter. It's definitely a great option for people who already own the OP1 8K but want something newer, or for people who want something lighter from the start.
