How to Clean Your Mousepad
Share
So you have just upgraded your mousepad to either one of those premium cloth mousepads or even a glass mousepad and your unsure on how to clean it.
Well hopefully this quick guide will help you out when it comes to that time.
Quick Clean:
- Spray your pad with a disinfectant spray (something milder without a ton of chemicals is preferred)
- Wipe down your pad with a microfiber cloth
Deeper Clean:
- In a bathtub or a targe tub, soak the pad in lukewarm water
- Apply a few drops of mild soap to the pad. I prefer to use a natural dish soap as it doesn't effect the fibers of the pad that much when compared to other harsher soaps. Avoid any soaps that have some kind of softener as these can alter the glide of the pad
- Use a soft microfiber cloth or a soft bristle brush to gently rub the soap into the pad
- Rinse the pad multiple times until none of the soap is present in the pad and then let the pad air dry.
Things to note:
- Each time you clean your mousepad, you reduce its durability. So, over washing your pad in the long run does more harm than good
- Try to stick to natural soaps without any added perfumes that can linger in the pad
- Using a lint roller to clean your pad is not recommended as it pull fabrics from the pad causing the pattern/weave of the mousepad to become disrupted introducing slow spots and permanent damage
- Refrain from using anything abrasive to wash your pad as this can lead to permanent damage
Cleaning Your Glass Mousepad
Cleaning a glass mousepad is a breeze compared to dealing with a cloth one—it’s so much faster and simpler, which is a game-changer for upkeep.
That’s honestly a major reason why tons of people ditch cloth pads and switch to glass ones in the first place. Cloth pads tend to trap dirt and grime, requiring more effort to scrub clean, while a glass pad wipes down in seconds. The hassle-free maintenance is a huge perk, especially if you’re tired of dealing with stains or worn-out fabric.
On a day-to-day basis, just wiping the pad with a microfiber cloth does the job to remove dust, debris, or light fingerprints.
If you’re looking for a deeper clean, here’s what to do:
- Mix a small drop of mild dish soap with lukewarm water in a bowl or spray bottle. Dampen a soft cloth with the solution (don’t soak it) and gently wipe the glass surface.
- Alternatively, use a glass cleaner safe for coated surfaces—just avoid spraying directly on the pad to keep liquid from seeping into the edges or base.
- Dry it thoroughly with a clean microfiber cloth to prevent streaks or water spots before using it again.
Things to note:
- Stick to using non alcohol based cleaner as these can damage the pad's surface or leave residue that will affect the mousepad glide when dried up
- Stick to using cloth when cleaning and drying your mousepad as abrasive brushes or sponges can cause permanent damage to the surface of the pad
And there you have it—a straightforward way to keep your mousepad, whether cloth or glass, in top shape! With just a little care, you’ll extend its life and keep your setup feeling fresh and pristine.
