A Quick Look at the Padsmith Genesis Pro and Crucible Pro Mousepads
Share
A brand that everyone knows and loves in this community, Padsmith.
Has just announced their new upcoming line up that is available for pre-orders currently.
The new pads are the Genesis and the Crucible V2 that come in two versions, Pro and non-Pro.
Main differences between the two is that the Pro has a piece of artwork on the front while the non-pro just comes in a single color that has three different options to choose from, grey, teal and purple.
The base of the mousepad is also different between the two with the non-pro having a soft CR base and the Pro lineup has the firm/hard Alphacell Gen2 base.
Padsmith kindly sent out the Genesis Pro and the Crucible V2 for us to checkout.
The first thing you notice when you take these pads outside of the packaging is the stunning artwork.
Both of these designs as well as any previous Padsmith pad have been hand drawn by, Conrady. A familiar face to most if you have bene following the progress and evolution of Padsmith.
It’s refreshing to see some designs on some mousepads that aren’t made using AI.
The Genesis Pro comes in two different designs, the monochrome skull and flowers designs that I have here and then the Medusa design.
While the Crucible Pro only comes in the Dragon design currently.
The quality on these pads are really good. The stitching all around the pad is consistent and minimal and overall really clean. On my unit of the Crucible Pro the stitching is even to the surface so I didn’t feel it once while in game.
On the Genesis Pro the stitching is slightly raised above the surface that you can feel if you run your finger along it but while actually using the pad I couldn’t feel the raised stitching because of how soft it is.
Both of the Pro pads share the same base, a firm/hard Alphacell Gen2 base. I am a huge fan of harder pads in general and I usually main the Artisan Raiden in mid. These do have a slight amount of more plush when you pushing into it with your finger but with your mouse skates the hardness feels pretty much the same.
The bases on the Pro versions of the mousepads feel super consistent due to the firm nature they have. Since the base is made from AlphaCell the grip the base provides is still one of the best I have seen. Best way to explain the base is that it almost functions like tape, you almost have to peel the pad off your desk to get it off.
Both of the surfaces on these pads are something to be excited about as they do feel quite different and unique compared to a lot of other mousepads that have come out this year.
Starting off with the Genesis Pro. The surface on this mousepad is ultra silky smooth and comfortable with pretty much no texture to it at all. Easily in my opinion one of the most comfortable mousepads I have used so far.
Padsmith labels this pad as a Speed mousepad and that label perfectly describes the feel you get from this mousepad.
Usually I main the Artisan Raiden Mid which is one of the fastest cloth mousepads you can pickup and the experience you get from the Genesis Pro is quite similar but in my opinion better.
While the Genesis Pro comes really close to the speed of the Artisan Raiden it has a very slight hint of more control/friction that makes the pad feel ever so slightly more locked in which I appreciated while I was using it.
First, the balance between speed and control is simply amazing on this Genesis Pro mousepad, combining smooth and fast glide with just a bit of friction that will help improve one's accuracy and handling.
This special mix makes it different from other speed pads, which usually focus just on the speed and completely lack control. I can say straight after a few hours of using the pad, that the Genesis Pro will surely turn out to be my new favorite mouse pad.
Its added control has given me an edge in handling my gameplay, especially compared to my previous main, the Artisan Raiden Mid. The Genesis Pro doesn’t just feel like an upgrade—it feels like a thoughtful refinement that blends speed with the reliability I’ve been looking for in a high-performance mousepad
The surface of the Crucible Pro feels quite similar to the Genesis Pro in terms of speed but in terms of the feel and look of the surface it’s slightly different.
The Crucible Pro also has a smooth surface but not as smooth as the almost velvet like level of the Genesis Pro. It has a very slight amount of texture due to the weave of the surface.
In terms of the speed the Genesis Pro and the Crucible Pro feel really close to each other. But with slightly more of the control/friction feeling I mentioned that the Genesis Pro had.
Still a pretty quick pad when paired with the right skates but like the Genesis Pro not uncontrollable. Padsmith has given this pad a balanced label and that’s pretty spot on, it’s fast but with some control.
Both of these pads offer something unique in terms of the art on the pad, as well as how the surface feels and performs. As someone who enjoys faster mousepads, I really enjoyed both of these pads.
Padsmith once again is showing us what they can do to bring unique and special mousepads to the market.
