The Setup Built for Speed (The Beast + Pulsar X2F)
Share
My go-to combo for the past few weeks has been a duo that has become a personal favorite: The Beast from Tekkusai and the Pulsar X2F Prototype.
This combination is a match made in heaven for anyone who wants raw, uncompromised speed in their gaming or productivity rig. By combining the fastest glass mousepad available with a light, small fingertip mouse made for precision, this combo offers an experience that's hard to match.
The Beast by Tekkusai
I've invested a lot of time in testing numerous well-known glass mousepads. I tried everything from well-known brands to less popular ones. Through all of this testing, there was one mousepad that caught really my attention and became my top choice: The Beast from Tekkusai.
What sets The Beast apart is that it is the fastest glass mousepad on the market today. That is a pretty impressive feat in a market where companies are continually trying to perfect low-friction surfaces. Speed is of the essence here, and The Beast delivers plenty of it.
When I initially used it, I was taken aback at how smooth it was to move my mouse around on it—like there was barely any friction. It's the kind of speed that will make each tiny movement feel instantaneous, which is a tremendous help for competitive gaming or any task that involves fast cursor movement.
Unlike other glass pads that feel like you are on a air hockey table, The Beast is till really fast but without having that feeling. It did take me a bit to adjust to it's speed but once I had it figured out, I found that it provides a more locked in glide.
Apart from its performance, The Beast has taken me by surprise with its dimensions especially its thickness. Measuring only 2.5mm, it is one of the thinnest mousepads available, whether glass or not. Its thickness can be compared to most cloth pads, which is unexpected for glass surfaces that are usually thicker.
With most other thicker pads, I'd instantly feel the height difference—it's minimal, but it can change the angle of my wrist or be uneasy. The Beast, however? It's so thin that I hardly notice how thick it is.
Pulsar X2F
On the mouse side of things, I've managed to obtain the Pulsar X2F Prototype, a fingertip-grip mouse in beta. Pulsar reached out to me to provide me a chance to test it and provide some feedback, and I was more than happy to oblige.
The X2F is a community-created project, as Pulsar has started a beta program with several testers. The goal is to perfect the mouse with real feedback before pushing it out to retail. I knew that it was a prototype and could be improved, so I did not expect much. But I have to say, it has already surprised me to the extent that it is used every day.
The X2F is built for fingertip users specifically. To explain the shape, picture the Pulsar X2 Mini—a small, popular mouse in its own right—cut in half, then narrowing the sides to create a better, more ergonomic curve. That's what the X2F is like to hold. This shape to me is precisely what a fingertip mouse should be. The majority of fingertip mice are too skinny, so that they feel awkwardly thin and uncomfortable in your hand in my opinion. The X2F prevents this. It is wide enough to feel solid but still allows for the precision and fast movement that fingertip grip demands.
Despite being unfinished, the X2F is extremely well built. The build quality and performance are already very promising. It is made from a combination of carbon-composite and plastic materials, so it is exceedingly durable. There is no flexing or creaking, just a solid shell that feels very premium. Holding it is like holding a quality piece of kit, though it has not been released.
Weighing in at approximately 40 grams, it is heavier than most fingertip mice, especially compared to the extremely light ones that are popular these days. The weight might not be for some who want the lightest one, but I feel it gives a feeling of control that works very well with The Beast's very speedy surface.
The Combo Experience
Merging The Beast and the Pulsar X2F has been a rollercoaster ride, a super fun but also an experience that did take some getting used to.
The big thing with this combo here is speed. Combining the smaller mouse with a pad that is purely built for speed is something everyone should try out at some point as it's a pretty fun experience. Everything feels super snappy and accurate as you have no friction to fight against making this a perfect combo for a lot of the heavy tracking or fast paced games such as Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, Call of Duty. Best way to explain it is that the mouse feels like an extension of your hand and combining that with the super low friction pad, everything you do is instant.
All that said, adjusting to it was a grind. Being someone who has never mained a fingertip grip-focused mouse, pairing the X2F with The Beast took some serious effort. Early games with this combo weren’t great—I’d overshoot my targets repeatedly.
The X2F is a bit heavier, but its weight turned out to be something I actually enjoyed. It adds just enough stability to the glide that this combo still feels manageable.
Now, after weeks of getting adjusted, the combo is finally clicking. My aim with the X2F and The Beast is pretty locked in and probably the best it has ever been.
